I’ve been to the Living Room on 17th avenue a few times and always had great food and good service. The great street side view (both from in and out-side the restaurant) and the interior has always been one of my favourite things about it as well, and keeps me coming back.
Being the Ahi Tuna fan that I am, it is certainly what I will most go for, and it does not disappoint. The fondues are always a good choice as well and the PB&J for dessert is a must if you’re a dessert/peanut butter fan like me.
A couple weeks ago, I had some friends a decide to go when I recommended it as a higher end locale with a great patio and good food. However, they were asked if they would be ordering full entrees and were turned away when a couple of them just wanted drinks and to maybe split an appy or two.
I can understand that, being in the location they are, The Living Room must get a lot of people in off the street just wanting to have a few drinks on the (very cool) patio, which must be irritating for chefs, managers, owners, and servers who want their food eaten, their bills paid, and their tips earned. However, to turn away a large group in which only a couple of people will not be eating full meals is absurd and rude. I decided to go onto Urban Spoon and read some other reviews and saw that it’s a pretty common occurrence.
If you want people only eating full meals, get off of 17th avenue. It’s not rocket science and it would certainly up people’s thoughts on overall service. Basically, the food is good, but make sure you know going that you’ll all need to order full meals or you’ll be treated like dirt and asked to leave unceremoniously.
