When I was still living full-time in Victoria and would visit Calgary in the summers, the Hop in Brew was always where we went. British Columbians frakkin love the Hop, I swear. I do too, I have to say. So I guess Albertans love it too.
The Hop is an old converted house which has a great home-y feel and a really relaxed atmosphere. If you’re up for a beer on a sunny day, try to get there early because the front porch is a great place to sit out and relax.
They’ve got a great selection of drinks and a very friendly staff. Go to chill with friends or shoot some pool. Don’t go to watch a game because there’s no tellies.
The food is good and I always enjoy when pubs don’t just stick frozen foods into the microwave to serve patrons, which is seriously common. I’d recommend their pizza’s in particular, which have a great crust (not too thin, not too thick) and a crap load of cheese (mmmmm).
I’d say it’s pretty obvious that I would recommend hitting up Hop in Brew. Although the location is a little sketchy, the atmosphere is great, the crowd is always cool, the servers are friendly, and the food and drinks are good. Go.
