I first fell in love with the Libertine when I sat down and saw that they had Blue Buck on the menu. Oh hell yes, I’ve been missing me some Blue Buck, the beer of choice in Victoria, since moving back to Calgary.
I continued to fall in love with Libertine on account of the fact that, every time I’m in, they have a great beer selection and awesome food, particularly for a pub. I really enjoy the veggie stack, which is a very good alternative to the mediocre veggie burgers that other pubs usually serve. Additionally, their flatbreads are all to die for. I’ve enjoyed literally everything I’ve eaten there and would highly recommend the spinach quinoa salad and the soft shell crab burger. I should clarify that the soft shell crab is up in the air, I’ve had friends who’ve loved it and others who have hated it. Its one of my personal favourites though.
Overall, The Libertine is absolutely wonderful. The ambiance is great, the food is great, the beer selection is interesting and good, and the staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The only downside is that it’s a bit more expensive than other pubs, but it’s worth it if you want to sample different beers and eat good food. Probably not worth it if you’re planning on having one too many beers on a Friday night.
