Hipsters and patios

Together at last. Well, the patio part is great at least.

I used to hit Broken City a lot when I was vegan because their vegan chilli and their veggie burger are phenomenal. Rather than attempting to create a faux meat chilli, they use crap loads of beans and it’s delicious.

Now, I still visit Broken City regularly because I love their food, it’s close to my apartment, and they have a sweet patio. Seriously, their patio is rooftop and among the best in the city. Plus, you don’t have to deal with every douchebag in the city, ridiculously over-priced beer, and awful servers like certain locales *cough* West *cough, cough*.

The service is pretty come and go. I’ve gone before and had absolutely wonderful service. In fact, I usually have wonderful service. The servers are attentive, knowledgeable, and never in-your face fake-friendly. Of course, I’ve also gone before and had absolutely awful service. It’s only happened a couple of times, but it was so atrocious that I certainly remember it (asking multiple times for condiments we never received, waiting close to an hour for the bill after asking for it numerous times, etc.).

As I already pointed out, the veggie chilli and the veggie burger are awesome. If you’re going for breakfast, I highly recommend the breakfast bowl. The vegan pancakes, the breakfast sandwich, and the poutine are all really good as well. If you’re stopping by for lunch or dinner, you absolutely need to try the chick pea fries. Do it.

Broken City on Urbanspoon Overall, go to Broken City.

100%.

It’s a great atmosphere with (generally) awesome service and great food. It’s especially great if you’re a vegan or vegetarian and are sick of the crappy pub grub options you have available (read; fries, awful frozen veggie patties, green salad, and occasionally hummus).
