Remember that time I was a vegan? That was the WORST! I couldn’t enjoy such splendors as pulled pork and bacon. Two of the best things on the planet. Truth.
Anyway, I’m here to talk about Palomino today. Get excited.
Okay, at least pretend to get excited, I won’t resent you for lack of authenticity, I promise.
The first time I went to Palomino I will admit that I was horrifically terrified. I had only ever seen it from the train tracks and all I could think of was the neighbouring pawn shops and their regular visitors. I was about 93% certain that I would get stabbed, 6% certain that I would get punched, and 1% certain that I would get robbed. Those numbers are estimates, but you get the picture.
I was, shockingly enough, wonderfully surprised to discover that Palomino is freaking AWESOME!
The decor is cool and casual, there’s a ton of space, the service is great, and the food is delicious; definitely one of the best spots in Calgary for carnivores.
Come hungry and come ready for BBQ, you won’t be disappointed. I highly, highly recommend the pulled pork (my personal favourite) and the beef brisket is also delicious. I’ve also been a big fan of the pulled pork poutine, though my heart and arteries weren’t quite as keen. Oh well, you only live once. Their garlic fries are awesome as well.
All in all, I highly recommend Palomino to anyone and everyone, as will basically everyone who’s ever been there, unless they’re some yoga hippie from BC or something (that’s sarcasm, in case you forgot that that was me for 3 years). I’d venture as far as saying that they’re the best BBQ in Calgary, and the atmosphere is Tony the Tiger grrrr-eat.
