I haven’t been to Cilantro in years.
Certainly not because I don’t like in. On the contrary, it’s rather because I didn’t live in Calgary and also, for some reason which escapes me, I often forgot it existed. Odd, I know. It’s a strange phenomenon considering I live nearby and walk past it almost everyday.
Alas.
To get on with it; my mom and I went recently because, like me, she hasn’t been in years and doesn’t know why. Unlike me, she used to go at least once a week. Or was it month? I don’t know, I was probably texting when she told me, like all the cool kids do when they’re in public with their parents. I kid, I kid! I’m not popular enough to have friends to text. Please ensue being sympathetic.
Anyway, we went for lunch and it was fairly full, so it was good that we had a reservation.
We both had the same wine because I trust her taste in wine and always just copy what she orders and/or suggest we get a bottle. (Spoiler alert: she chose well. As per usual.)
As for the food, I had the tuna sandwich, which was absolutely phenomenal. It was also massive, but I devoured it. That’s how good it was. I appreciated that it was served in a flatbread/pita because it made for more room for all the amazing filler (grilled rare tune, goat cheese, portabello mushrooms, YUM).
my mom had a salad that was a special. It had grilled chicken and goat cheese and was equally as fabulous as my sandwich.
The moral of the story is basically that I need to stop forgetting that Cilantro exists. It’s by far one of my favourite spots in the city and I’ve never had a bad meal or glass of wine there.
Obviously, I recommend going. I also recommend that people occasionally send me reminder emails to go as well, just in case I forget again.
I live in Los Angeles, but somehow I have heard of this restaurant…just one more reason to visit Toronto someday.
We will gladly send you a reminder lol Thank you for the great review !!
