Oft when I am in Victoria my friends will say: “Katie, let’s have a classic night out ‘Vic style’ and go for a great dinner and then to 90′s night at Lucky”. To which I will respond: “Sure! Can I choose the restaurant?”
Then, we will go to one of my favourite restaurants, situated conveniently close to Lucky and I will have an amazing dinner and proceed to skip out on the rest of the evening because Lucky is the shittiest bar ever and 90′s night was created simply for all the first and second UVic and Camosun students to make me want to hurl myself off of a building.
Most recently we hit up Fiamo before I ditched all my friends to wait in the stupid long line at Lucky for 2 hours before getting in and being swarmed by children while perspiration drips off of the ceiling onto the dancefloor.
When I lived full-time in Vic, I loved going to Fiamo. The food and drinks are amazing, and the service is wonderful. Plus, a friend of mine worked there for awhile so we’d go in to visit/harass her.
If you’re going with a group, I highly recommend starting with appetizers. My personal favourites are the meatballs and the B.C. mushrooms.
As for your entree, Fiamo has excellent choices! Their pizzas are amazing! Split one or two with a friend to try more than one! My personal favourites are the roasted vegetable and the smoked salmon. I tend to stray away from pasta because it’s so heavy, but Fiamo has excellent gnocchi and I like their ravioli. Also phenomenal is their chicken parmesan. I highly recommend it to everyone!
All in all, go to Fiamo. It’s a little bit pricey for students, but it’s worth it. Save the money you were going to spend going to 90′s night at Lucky and spend it at Fiamo. Then go back to your place and listen to a 90′s/early 2000′s playlist and dance around your living room with friends. You;ll ahve a better time and be better fed. /advice from Katie.
