Football, Food, and ‘Freshments

Recently, some friends and I hit up Local 522 for dinner before heading to the Stamps game and then out for drinks.

I’ve been to Local 522 quite a few times, predominently because the location is convenient and because I’ve never had a bad time. Of course, I’ve also never had a good time either.

Local 522 has a basic pub grub menu, which sounds very appealing. I’ve had their veggie panini, chicken panini, house salad, chicken burger, fried, nachos, and tacos in the past. While none of them were outright bad, none of them were good either.

Local 522 suffers from food that is lackluster at best. On my most recent visit I ordered the chicken panini with tomato bisque. My panini literally had no flavour. None at all. I basically had to make use of all of the condiments at the table to let my mouth know I was actually putting something into it. The bisque was better, but I still had to add quite a bit of hot sauce and pepper to amp up the flavour.

Local 522 Public Tavern & Kitchen on Urbanspoon          Overall, I don’t mind the atmosphere at Local 522, and the service is always good. However, I don’t recommend eating there. Pop in after work for drinks, but head somewhere else for your meal. I’d recommend walking to Stephen Ave; you’ll find better food options there.

After the meal, we popped onto the train and headed to the game. It was a good time, I hadn’t been to a Stamps game in what seemed like infinity. However, it was darn cold so we left early and hit up Ceili’s on Stephen Ave. for a quick drink before calling it a night.
