One of my very favourite people in the entire world just got home from an extended vacation in Australia and South East Asia, so of course, we had to meet up. On Monday we decided to hit up 1410 Bier Haus on account of the good location, the good beer, and the (apparently) good wings. I write “apparently” there because I had never had them before so wasn’t aware of if they were good or not. However, my friend – who was distraught over the lack of good wings in Australia – said they were great and we should go. And so we did.
I was mostly excited because, now that I’ve begun eating meat again, I was actually going to be able to enjoy the chicken wings. Please be informed that this is humourous on account of the fact that I don’t actually like chicken wings all that much. I’ve really just been enjoying me meat intake lately. I’ve been slowly making the rounds on the various meats I’ve missed out on for the past eight months. As of Monday I’d had bison, beef, salmon, scallops, and shrimp (not to mention tons of dairy and eggs, but that’s another story). Obviously, I was uncomfortably excited for my return to chicken. Even though I had read Fresh just a few days before (awful book, I hated it, just for the record).
We started with one order of 10 hot wings and an order of yam fries. The wings were good; crispy and hot. The yam fries were awesome. I’m basically a yam fry connoisseur, and these are up there on the list of awesome. They came with three different dips, all of which were delicious and very different from one another (which I find rare when aioli is involved).
Ten wings were not enough. We needed more, and I love meat. As I kindly and casually pointed out to my dining partners.
I was obviously unwilling to share. I just really like my meat right now.
And so we (or should I say I?) ordered more chicken wings. As good as the last ones. I devoured them like a crazy person, leaving only a pile of bones (all sucked dry) in front of me. From 1410, we decided to move on to Morgan’s because word on the street was that they have $1.00 beer Mondays. Word on the street was correct, so we obviously had a great time. When I go to Morgan’s it’s usually on Tuesdays, and it’s starting to get super busy, which irritates me to no end as a claustrophobic person. However, Monday wasn’t too bad and we even managed to grab a full table on the patio with 9 or 10 of us.
When I got home I somehow decided that the chicken wings I so maniacally ate at 1410 weren’t enough to fill me up and that I needed Nutella. Please keep in mind that Nutella has milk products in it, so I haven’t been able to eat it for eight months. That will make the fact that I basically ate an entire jar of it in three days much less disgusting. Okay, I should rephrase that. It’s still disgusting, it’s just more… acceptable? Understandable? Either way, I’m fairly certain that over the next two weeks or so, as I eat every meat and dairy product in sight, I’m going to gain horrific amounts of weight. My family and friends are basically going to be able to roll me to and from random locales. It’s going to be very exciting. I will most likely make them feed me as they’re rolling me, as well. It’s really only logical.
Moral of the story? Check out 1410. They’ve got great food, and the beer selection is phenomenal. The mango beer was amazing. It’s only 3.6% and basically tastes like juice. Also good was the apricot beer. These were just tastings I had from friends, of course, being a boring Traditional girl myself.
